What to Wear

I have never considered age a limitation, but a gauge of what I still want and need to do: continue to be creative, keep constantly learning, and essentially do whatever I damn well want. So this dressing your age thing is a misconception, I say dress you and who you are. If it feels right, it is right.

I have always loved fashion; my Mom and Dad both had style and class when it came to their dress. My dad could jazz up a uniform with just a cap and his strut and my Mom was just one of those women who made the outfit, the outfit never made her. I have never known or met anyone like her when it comes to style. I did not grow up wealthy, but she could make any outfit look special. I picked up some of her talent, but not nearly enough. As one of five children and the only girl, my Saturday afternoon trips to department stores and secondhand stores all over NYC in search of fashion were pure joy. I fell in love with fabrics and colors at a very young age. Putting together an outfit has always been exciting to me.

Having two daughters has been an asset in helping me to continue my love of the art of styling. They have never allowed me to get stuck in convention when it comes to my style of dress; they continue to make me feel forever young.  The struggle is to find the designers and clothes that defy the 50-plus conventional look. Happily I think I have!
